Four Things To Keep In Mind When Looking For A Commercial Security Fence

Ronald Bell

Security is an important consideration for your business. A fence is one of the best ways to ensure that security. The following are four things to keep in mind when choosing a security fence.

1. Bypass Risks

There are many ways someone could potentially bypass a fence. The most obvious is cutting through the fencing material. You can avoid this by opting for a heavy gauge chain link or going with a steel fencing option. Posts should be well planted and secured so that they can't be easily knocked over. Another common way a fence can be bypassed is through the gate. Make sure the gate is made of the same durable material as the fence. Hinges and latches may also need to be reinforced to ensure it can't be easily forced open.

2. Climbing and Vaulting

Another common way intruders break in is by climbing or vaulting over the top of a fence. Razor wire is one of the main methods for preventing people from climbing over a fence. A tall fence of six or more feet can further reduce the chances of climbing or vaulting over the top of the fence. Choose fencing styles that don't have horizontal rails on the outside of the fence, as these make it easy to climb up the fence. Another method to prevent climbing is to have a fence with top panels that slant outward.

3. Hiding Spots

Solid fences aren't always secure fences. A solid fence shields your business grounds from outside eyes, which makes it more easy for an intruder to sneak around unseen and unreported. Open fencing, like chain link of vertical pickets, provides full visibility to passersby. Further, there shouldn't be anything that provides hiding spots, particularly near gates. Overgrown landscaping, for example, can conceal someone who will then sneak through the gate to follow a staff member through.

4. Digging Issues

Although not as common as other methods of breaking in, digging is a concern to keep in mind. One way to completely prevent digging risks is to install a concrete footing around the perimeter of the fence. Another benefit of such a footing is that it will also secure the fence post better, which will make the fence more sturdy. No one will be able to dig out a fence post in an effort to get through the fence.
